Steve's Food Thing
What's New...
2/15/2012: Added this recipe for Mario's Chile.
1/10/2012: Added this recipe for Frijoles Borrachos ("Drunken Beans"). We made this in the crock pot, then tried stirring in some of the left over Fire-roasted Tomatillo Salsa. It was amazingly good. The raw onion in the Salsa reminded me of a chile topping.
1/6/2012: Added the recipe for Pico De Gallo Salsa.
1/3/2012: Added this recipe for Fire-Roasted Tomatillo Salsa.
1/1/12: Added this recipe for macaroni tuna salad.
9/18/2011: Added this recipe for Apple Crisp. We have 2 trees that are producing this year, this recipe is now well tested and delicious with French Vanilla ice cream.
9/13/2011: Added this new page containing Ron Lathrop's cookbook, Ronscook.
7/9/2011: We made the ham and bean soup recipe I added 4/29/10 again, I updated the recipe with a few notes. This is a wonderful thing for emptying out / using up stuff in the fridge / freezer. We had small bowls as an appetizer when it was done, then froze the rest that will be 4 lunches.
4/12/2011: We've been watching some health, nutrition, and cooking shows and DVDs. We had a couple of filet in the freezer. I've always cooked these steaks on the grill, with varied results at succeeding bringing them in perfectly medium rare. We'd seen a show where they cooked the steaks inside with a frying pan seer, then in the oven. With a bit of internet research, I came up with this recipe for Filet Mignon with sauteed Mushrooms. It turned out beautifully. We're now excited about exploring sauce variations. Also, added this recipe for a pork stir fry we want to try when we get back to Breezy.
3/15/2011: Added this recipe. Michelle's Coconut Chicken Curry, with mods by Steve. Added this recipe for New Year's Day Black-Eyed Peas.
11/27/2010: Added this recipe for Rack of Lamb. We had always cooked it on the grill. This was baked. I cooked it for the 7 minutes at 400, then the full 15 minutes at 300. It turned out a beautiful medium rare. Served with mint sauce, boiled white potatoes with dill and butter, and a salad. Yummy...
4/29/2010: Added this Ham and Bean Soup recipe. I plan to try this soon, we're not getting enough beans in our diet.
4/28/2010: Added this easier Lamb Curry recipe.
3/22/2010: Added this quick, easy, and extremely good recipe for Spaghetti with White Clam Sauce.
2/18/2010: Added this scrumptious Potato Leak soup recipe, which on day 2 became a delicious clam chowder.
2/5/2010: I updated my dungeness crab recipe to reflect how we've been preparing them this season.
8/26/2009: Added this recipe for vegetable soup.
8/5/2009: Added this recipe for Pizza Dough and Sauce.

5/18/2009: Added this recipe for Espiritu Carbonara, pasta with cream sauce.
5/5/2009: Added this recipe for Exquisitos, Mexican Hot Dogs.
4/10/2009: Added this recipe for Chicken Curry. If you have Indian spices on hand, this is a fun one to prepare, and we enjoyed the heck out of it.
11/25/2008: Added this crab recipe.
11/11/2008: This one is so simple, it hardly rates a write up, but the outcome was so tasty. I needed some food for breakfast last Saturday before going out to race. Marsha wasn't hungry so it was just me. We had some leftover flour tortillas so I thought I'd try making a breakfast burrito. I started by scrambling two eggs in butter, and added some red onion, shredded cheese, and a bit of half and half. I scraped the eggs onto a tortilla in a paper plate, then fried 3 strips of bacon in the same pan. I broke up the bacon onto the eggs, then rolled the tortilla, then placed it fold side down in the hot bacon grease. I fried it this way until lightly browned, then did the same to the other side. Wow!
9/20/2008: Added the 5 cheese ravioli recipe that was buried in storage.
8/6/2008: Turns out, the Red Salsa is a pretty good hangover cure. We joined Rick and Pam from Hotel California, and Pam's sister Sherry to go see Eric Stone at the Balina Bay Yacht Club last Saturday night. There were some pretty good margarita's available, well anyway. I tried the recipe Sunday morning. After about 3 chips full of the Salsa and 2 minutes, we were all bright eyed and bushy tailed :-)

7/30/2008: Added this recipe for Red Salsa. I put the blender in the "move to Breezy" unit, but we had second thoughts so I brought it back to Spirit. Good thing, I found this recipe while cleaning up the nav station after decommissioning the old P3 laptop that had run out of steam. It was the secret recipe promised by a seller on ebay selling dried Chiles de Arbol. Jim Hegland of Laughing Buddha sent me a link to the item as a possible Mario's sauce. I think I'll pick up some Tomattillos
at the farmers market on Friday and try it this weekend. I'll let you know.
7/15/2008: I left out the squeeze a 1/2 lemon over the sauteing shrimp in the Sauteed Prawns recipe. We tried it with the Jalapeno, forgetting the lemon - it was also very good. Next, I'll try it with both the lemon and jalapeno. That made me think of a good title if this collection of recipes should ever turn into a cook book - "Jalapeno (Optional)".
7/8/2008: Added Sauteed Prawns and Chili Dogs with Mild Home made Chili. The meal with the prawns was quick and easy to prepare, very delicious. With the chili dogs, I was trying for a Detroit inspired hamburger loose special.
3/13/2008: Added this easy Pork and Green Bean Stir Fry recipe. Recovering from a cold, I wanted something easy. Though I used fresh ingredients, this recipe gives you options to make it even easier. Next time, I think I'll try it with the frozen green beans, ginger powder (or better, paste), and garlic salt just to see how easy it can be:-)
2/29/2008: I'm now adding the details of new additions to this recipes page here, and will likely add a terse reference to the update on the main page. Today's updates, I simplified and improved the Shrimp with Snow Peas recipe, added my new Coconut Milk Curry Stew recipe, added Catie's Stovetop Rice recipe, and one we've enjoyed many times now, Salmon with Raspberry Chipotle Glaze.
12/14/07: This new Recipes page will always be under construction. I'm creating it as my online cookbook so I can print a page I want to cook from a handy location. A common theme here will likely be things I make in the galley on Spirit for 2 people, mostly dinners. The dinner recipes are grouped by how they are cooked, then kind of alphabetically.
